Sport can change people’s lives. That’s what our Hat-Trick has shown over the past 17 years working in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Founded in 2005 through a partnership between The FA and UEFA Hat-Trick delivers around 70 sessions each week to people in Newcastle upon Tyne and now in Gateshead.
We support the young people to reach their full potential by providing opportunities to participate in positive activities that offer training, qualifications & leadership. We work across the city of Newcastle and borough of Gateshead in areas of high deprivation, the top 10 percent of most deprived neighbourhoods across the country.
Many people come to Hat-Trick low on confidence and self-esteem, facing significant barriers to achieving their potential. Many turn their backs on education and employment and have few opportunities to get involved in positive activities that offer role models. Hat-Trick’s team offers a unique package of innovative programmes in school and community settings that are inclusive to all.
Hat-Trick promotes physical activity, but it’s about much more than that. Robust evaluation has demonstrated wider social, economic, health and cultural outcomes ranging from obesity reduction and better mental health to reducing crime and creating pathways to training and employment.
It doesn’t matter how good a young person is at sport: it’s about using sport as a hook to help young people develop and become more confident gaining or enhancing existing skills with routes into further training and employment.
Hat-Trick’s roots are firmly in the West End – but the team now works with schools and youth organisations throughout Newcastle and the North East.
